Manager of Rainforest Alliance’s Petén Office
Jorge Cruz is the hometown hero from Petén who now serves as a manager of Rainforest Alliance. He grew up in the Petén and is taking on active roles in his community. For Jorge, working with the communities that his parents worked in has come full circle. In his everyday work, Jorge manages all operations in the Petén office of Rainforest Alliance. He is the main contact for ideas and often people come to him to generate ideas.
Jorge appreciates the collaboration and support this website is doing and sees great potential for the audience to bring attention to people like his father who worked in the concessions all these years. In many ways, Jorge is paying it forward through his work supporting these community concessions.
"I think my relationship with nature as a kid made a large mark on my life. Because my dad was a chiclero [harvester of chicle] who came to Petén from Veracruz, México to work on chicle…he would bring wild meat and money to pay our bills from working in the forest. So from an early age I learned how the forest can provide for my life.”
